Members XBEAR Posted March 29, 2009 Members Posted March 29, 2009 Have never had my boat on taneycomo. right now if i wanted to troll for trout would it be better to put in at scottys or powersite? which way would be the best way to go from scottys and powersite. Any other info would be appreciated. thanks
twosets Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I would put in at scottys to fish that stretch of the lake. If you want to catch fish, the best bet would be to get some drift rigs and float with the current (assuming generation) using nightcrawlers or power bait bouncing off the bottom from just upstream of monkey island (island on the right as you head upstream from scottys) thru Branson's landing. Check with Lamar at scottys, he will have good advice and all the bait you need. Good Luck "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."

twosets Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 There are lots of great articles under the upper tany section that explore all of the different ways to fish. Looking at them will give you lots of options, for a new person to the lake the drift rig thing is perhaps the easiest way to have success. You can also throw a 1/16 oz feather jig(up to 1/8 if the water is fast), small spoons and rapellas work well. Using 2 or 4 lb low vis green line is a real key to success. "This is not Nam. ozark trout fisher Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS. 2 OR 4 LB TEST LINE. I HAVE NEVER USED LINE THAT LIGHT IN MY LIFE. I WILL TRY IT THO. THANKS AGAIN XBEAR Yeah, you'd be surprised. When I fished for trout other places (Mostly Colorado, cause I'm from there) 10 pound test is fine. But while I don't know a lot about Taneycomo, to catch trout anywhere here in Missouri, it is a real must to use nothing bigger than 4# line. I didn't believe it at first either, but after going trip after trip and catching hardly any, I finally tried using lighter line, and using the exact same techniques I began to catch a decent number of trout. It really is essential. For lures, based on what I've heard, I'd reccomend Cleo spoons, size 0 or 1 Mepps Spinners, tiny rapalas, and 1/16 or 1/32 ounce white marabou jigs. You might want to throw some nightcrawlers or Powerbait in just in case, as long as your below Fall Creek.
Members XBEAR Posted April 11, 2009 Author Members Posted April 11, 2009 THANKS OTF I USED 8# IN COLORADO. LIVED UP THERE ALSO. I HAVE FISHED TANEYCOMO BUT NOT FROM MY BOAT. GOING TO TRY MONDAY IF THE WEATHER GETS A LITTLE BETTER. GIVE ME A HOLLER AND WE WILL TRADE STORIES ABOUT COLORADO. XBEAR
taxidermist Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 6 or 8 # test line will be fine on Taney. Thats what we use and have for years since the early 1970's You can troll Gold and black CD-5 rapalas and catch fish even cast them, Rogues work fine. you can always carolina rig with power bait. use a 6 eagle claw crappie hook abd three power baits with twp red gulp eggs 1/8th ounce sinker, 18 inch leader. We use Vanish Gold Flourocrabon, you can feel the lightest strike with a good rod.
Members XBEAR Posted April 13, 2009 Author Members Posted April 13, 2009 THANKS TAXIDERMIST EVERYTIME I PLAN ON GOING ITS WINDY OR RAINING. GOING TO TRY TUESDAY MORNING 14th. SEE WHAT HAPPENS. TALK LATER XBEAR BRANSON WEST
twosets Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 I think what Taxi is saying is that if you use large baits (and catch huge trout like he does) larger line is fine. Many us us fish smaller stuff and for that smaller line is needed. "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
