April Fools Tournament

Phil Lilleys' son, Greg, sponsored a school fund raiser tournament on April Fool's Day. There weren't as many teams as they would have liked but we had a great time and the fishing was fun. First and third places went to novices with the winning team weighing in 12.15 lbs of trout, the largest being a 23 inch brown. Not bad for a couple of college boys who listened to some sage advice and fished where and how they were told to fish.

Trophies were handed out and the prize money helped pay gas money home!

Though this was my first tournament and I have no other ones to compare it to, I will still say that it was well run and Phil and his team did everything they could to make it fun and successful. We just hope the kids were able to benefit from the effort. (By the way, my team mate Chuck and I took third!)

Worms were the bait of the day but Cleos did well closer to downtown. Early in the day the powerbait worked but only on a limited basis. Chuck and I had our best success 45 minutes before tourney end (4 PM). It rained from 2 until 3 PM and most of the guys called it a day. We went out to the mouth of Short Creek after the rain subsided and caught 5 fish in 30 minutes, two being a 16 and an 18 inch brown.

Well, just thought I might encourage some of you who would like to have a tourney to call Phil Lilley at Lilleys' Landing.

Like they say, the worst day fishing is better than the best day working..........and this was one good day of fishing!
