troutgnat Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Gentlemen, Sorry for being a couple of days late. Friday morning I fished Yokum, Cricket and Long. Actually went looking for the whites but couldn't locate them, they were not up the creeks as they had been. Anyway good thing I was prepared and brought my cranking rod and some crankbaits. Found a couple of productive windward chunkrock transition banks up Long Creek and paralelled them with a crawfish colored wiggle wart and boated 3 mean-mouths; the biggest being a 14 incher and a 15" largemouth and several smaller blacks. The crank bite was quite aggressive. I never did find the white bass. If anyone knows where there at right now I'd appreciate a pointer or two. Thanks. roy_eros Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I fished the same area last Wed, Thurs, and Friday afternoons. Wed and Thurs did quite well on the wart and spinnerbait fairly shallow. Bite was tougher on friday with that front moving in, had to move a little deeper to get bit and did not find the same quality fish. Hopefully this weater we are getting today will get that shallow bite fired up again for later this week! We also caught a nice 14" meanmouth, he bit very aggresive on the wart.

Roy, thanks for the reply, the mean mouths are fun aren't they. Those that I caught bit hard as well. I threw a spinnerbait as well but didn't get bit. It was the wart for me. I saw some guys on one of the major channel swings up Long who were fishing for cats and doing quite well with several 7lb+ channels on the stringer. Did you see them by chance? roy_eros Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I dont guess we made it up that far, we were fishing more down around cricket creek mostly, we also fished a couple pockets back up towards the main lake, im hoping we get to make it back up this weekend, looks like the weather should be nice.
