Wheatenheimer Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Well, Pops and I decided to brave the winds and head to Beaver this morning. We arrived at Beaver Creek Boat ramp around 0900. We ran up the creek maybe a quarter of a mile. On my 3rd cast I caught a little male. I caught him on a pearl and gray wooly bugger. About an hour later pops caught a real nice crappie on a chartreuse crappie jig. The water temp was around 48 in the creek. After another couple of hours of nothing, we headed back down to the White River chanel and started fishing along the mouths of small creeks. The wind was not cooperating and soon the trolling motor joined the "Buck the Wheat's" party. The batteries ran out on the trolling motor so we headed back to the truck around noon. I tried to post some pic's, I'm not a real techy person, so we'll see if it worked! Cheers to all! Kevin
Sam Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 It's interesting that it's a black crappie. That's what I've found so far this year on upper Bull Shoals too - out of every 10 crappie I've caught about 9 have been black crappie. That's the exact opposite of what I've found in all the previous years there - it's always been about 9 white crappie out of every 10 crappie caught. I've always liked black crappie a little better. I like the way they bunch up near brush, while white crappie like to spread out more. The Arkansas Black Nose sub-variety of black crappie are really my favorites, and I've only caught one there so far this year. I think those grow bigger, bite and fight better than the others. I wonder if the floods last year somehow reversed the ratio of white/black crappie in Bull Shoals. We'll find out when they really get to spawning, I guess.
