bigredbirdfan
I'm not worked up about this. Believe me it's laughable until you think where this kind of logic goes next. Some poor guy can't sell his motorcycles in Cassville because they have a few lead parts on them. What a joke. The next thing they will make sure we have safety scissors in our house so we don't get hurt or allow our kids to get hurt (child neglect). Absolute absurdity. This same generation in charge of these restrictions allowed the planet to get polluted with all kinds of crap and now we need to knee jerk to get rid of little lead jigs. How about mass use of fertilizers or pesticides or perscription pills flushed down the potty? Take care of the major problems prior to 1/100th oz jigs. Oh and Chief: If there is soo much lead at the bottom of the rock why don't you go down there and retrieve it and re-sell it. Have you seen the price of a dozen sinkers? You could make some quick cash in these economic time. It really wouldn't take that long if you focused on popular fishing spots likely to hold most of the tons your refer to. Ill Trout Bum
I too use a lot of lead jigs, from 1/100 up to 3/8. One thing I'm sure of is that the manufacturer's of non lead jigs will start offering an alternative soon (I hope). Not to mention spinner baits and buzz baits which I lose on occasion. There are and have been alternatives for cat fishermen and bass fishermen for quite a while. I do hope they can offer something in the smaller sizes. Locally there is nothing that I have found, yet. Most of these small sized lead heads are produced by small business operations. I have sold these for years and my supplier is a retired gentleman that produces and markets his product all over the US. I inquired last year about the possibility of buying jigs that are cast from something other than lead. He told me that at that time there was no other material available to him that would allow him to produce an affordable product. Lead alternatives such as bismuth and tungsten are high priced commodities. If he should be forced to use such items, you can expect the cost of your jigs to at least double. Please give background on the highlighted part. Would you prefer that we crucify those over the age of 40 because they let the planet get this bad? How about those during the days of industrialization in this country? How about the railroad workers that burn coal and thus put CO2 into the atmosphere? How about YOU for driving your car or truck? Do you see what I am getting at? You can't point the finger at ONE person or ONE thing for any of this. Everyone is responsible for this. Also, "progress" as it is called, is contributing to this pollution mess as tractors and bulldozers knock trees over to make roads wider thus doing two things. A: polluting the air with diesel fumes, B: killing an oxygen producing tree. Will they ever be ostracized publicly for this? Hell no. Drop the political BS, and discuss the thread. This thread is not about some kid flushing mommy's medication, it is about the ban of lead in our waterways. Do I think it is a little much? Yes I do. Will I comply? You bet ya! We are not talking mercury in the streams we are talking small fishing lures. And BTW driving my automobile does NOT POLLUTE. It emites greenhouse gases (non toxic) including water vapor and CO2 both known non-pollutants they also come from your mouth. So save that line of crap. Are greenhouse gases not polluting the atmosphere, killing the ozone layer (supposedly)? I believe they are. Driving all automobiles causes pollution. I guess you have wear proof tires too, right? Rubber wears off the tires and thus pollutes, ending up in streams via wastewater systems. Don't tell me your vehicle does not pollute. EVERYONE pollutes. drew03cmc
Only people who don't really know what they are talking about. Jigs are not illegal, lead is. Did you read what you posted or did you just post it? Lead shot is illegal too, as are lures that include lead, including spinners, spinnerbaits, bass jigs, crappie jigs, buzzbaits and anything else with lead in it. Now don't get all upset because of my poking fun at "Inconvient B.S". I am clearly in the minority on many issues these days and it doesn't bother me. If they think this will really solve the environmental issues and they can prove it will. I'll just get all warm and fuzzy with my new tungeston or whatever mystery new material jig head for my gitzits.
