Members trout_bum Posted April 6, 2009 Members Posted April 6, 2009 Brutal winds, bitter cold and a few wild rainbows. I braved the elements and got out and fished Crane Creek for a few hours today. I don't normally like fishing in these conditions, but I wanted to try out a new digital camera I bought last week. Hope you enjoy. Corey Dodson "Trout everywhere tremble at the mention of my name."

The only thing more beautiful than Crane Creek are the trout that live in it. That trout on the top may be the prettiest trout I have ever seen. I really gotta get down to Crane.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 The creek looks fantastic in those photos. Looks like some good flow going through... Where were you fishing? Upper or lower access? We're going to be making a stop at Crane in a couple weeks... Those fish sure are beautiful! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
DaddyO Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Are the big black spots, along the red strip on the side, specific to the McCloud strain of rainbows? I caught one, that looked just like the one in the top picture, in the Lower Illinois River below Tenkiller lake in Oklahoma. At the time, I thought, that it sure was a pretty fish and I should've taken a picture. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Andy & JoAnne Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I am guessing you are really liking your new camera. Nice shots. Thanks for sharing.

They will eventually lose these marks as they grow larger. Corey Dodson "Trout everywhere tremble at the mention of my name."
tippett7 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 What were they biting on and were they spooky? I'm sure 7x was in order or not?
Members trout_bum Posted April 9, 2009 Author Members Posted April 9, 2009 What were they biting on and were they spooky? I'm sure 7x was in order or not? As spooky as wild turkey gobblers. Most people complain that they never see a trout when they go to Crane. They don't stack up in open water like they do in the trout parks, and they are very well camoflaged and hold very tight to cover most of the time. They are extremely wary and will usually detect you before you see them. The water was up a little, so 7x wasn't really needed. I will mostly use 6x and 5x and occasionally 4x for bigger, heavier stuff. Corey Dodson "Trout everywhere tremble at the mention of my name."
tippet7 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I fished Crane on Tuesday and got skunked. It was my first time out there, so I wasnt real sure on where to fish. Started at an MDC site near a bridge. Looked very fishy, but nothing happened. I did however run into a HUGE (not lying either) snake as I was climbing up the bank. It was a grayis/smoke color snake about 3 ft long. Good thing I had wader on, no one saw the pee running down my leg Fished in town at the park. I saw a few trout, but couldnt get anything to bite there either. And once again, a snake was waiting on the bank near the bridge, close to the playground area. I knew this place was snakey in the summer time, but after a couple of bitter cold days and nights, the temps might have been 50 on tuesday..gives me the willies You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
