Members Zack Posted April 9, 2009 Members Posted April 9, 2009 Afternoon fellas, I am new to fly fishing and would like to get into some action on the Arkansas at the Zink Dam. I currently have an 8wt rod and reel and was wondering what everyone is throwing at them? Where are some good access points, where do the fish hold in low water and how do they survive in such low water? I assume the water is no more then 5' deep when low, correct?
OKFlyFisher44 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 As far as flies go...throw clousers and deceivers at them. White/silver or white/chart seem to work the best. Best way to access the place is to park across the street from the pedestrian bridge at 21st and Riverside...then just find a good place to walk into the river. The fish hold in various places below Zink. I always had luck with the deeper holes and slack water...stripping in your flies at various speeds. Check water flows on the USGS website...you want it below 500-750 cfs for prime wading conditions and most places arent much over waist deep for the most part. When the water comes back down...just post when you're going fishing and most of us local to Tulsa would be up for going.... Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
