I can't find a number for the current releases anywhere online. Is there one?

Also, what's going on at the dam right now? According to this:

http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/KEYS.lakepage.html

and this:

http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/webdata/g...O2.current.html

they shut off the water yesterday evening. (It shows the release going to 0 cfs on the tabular data, the graph and the "current readings" section right on the front page.) Yet, the tailwater level never dropped, according to the tabular data. I'm guessing it's a malfunction in their recording equipment? I was thinking about coming over and fishing this afternoon, but I don't want to waste my time if they're still running 12000 cfs.

You have the same frustration that every one of us that fish tailwater fisheries experience.

You don't want to waste a trip if the water is unfishable/high/muddy.

For every tailwater there seems to be differing factors to be aware and different means to access the info you need online. Some are better than others.

To answer your question about a phone # for the dams, you can call 918-669-7521 for a recording for that day's lake levels and "scheduled" generation. I just called it and the recording was still the one for yesterday, not good. The list of lakes and dams they provide is good, from Eufaula and Tenkiller, to the Grand River dams, Key, Skiatook, Kaw and others.

There is also an SWPA website at http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx that contains the generation schedule updated at 5 pm (usually) for the following day. Go to this link and then pick the day you want, but be sure the date is correct and not a week old. See, not perfect by any means.

On that one, it quotes the generation in KW (kilowatts) and there is a key to convert to cfs at the bottom of the page.

Hope this is helpful, though not exactly what any of us like to sort through every time we need info.

Good luck and be safe on the AR River!!

Yeah, I have all the stuff for the "scheduled" generation. I was curious if there is a number for current generation, such as there is on the white river lakes? Doesn't seem like there is.

Guys,

I can see the Arkansas River from my Downtown Tulsa office. I can tell you that as of 10am this morning the river has not dropped. It is still the same level that it has been all week.

Disappointment here also. My new 9ft 8wt just came in yesterday and I was wanting to try for some Striper on a Fly Rod action.

If you go to this website, it will give you current generation at Zink Dam. Obviously, if they turn off the water at the darn...it takes several hours before the water drops at Zink.

Pretty neat site to look at generation tables....been really handy for me since I only live 30 minutes away.

I've been watching the USGS site...the generation levels at Zink are dropping dramatically today. Its been cut in half in the last few hours. We might get lucky and get a period of no generation before this next storm moves in Sunday.

Or they might just be screwing with us....

Either way, I'm probably going to pack my gear with me tomorrow for work. If its fishable tomorrow afternoon...I'm heading to Zink at 3:00. Should be fishing by 3:30...

I called the number and it said 0 generators from midnight to 7 and 1 generator from 7 to 1 and 2 generators from 1 to midnight on Saturday. I don't know if you can believe that because they were supposed to crank up to 2 generators when the shut them down today.

Great...well, depending on how fast the water drops at Zink...it MIGHT be fishable in the morning. Won't be worth a crap by the time I get off work....man that sucks. I was starting to get excited about the idea of chasing some stripers again...

This really stinks...stupid rain! stupid engineers! Ok, I'll get off my soap box...

Guess I'll have to go check out the local city lake in my little pond-hoppin' boat...see if the largemouth will take an interest in some poppers or deceivers...

Woohoo...Zink is at 752 cfs and still dropping. If it keeps dropping, I'm going out there at 3:00...should be fishing by 3:30 if anyone wants to come out and fish with me.

I'll be in my lil' go-kart truck (white Isuzu P'up) since my wife has my Dodge today...

I saw the water dropping too. I got on the water about 2pm. I was throwing a white and chartruse clouser. I fished in front of the low water dam where it turns the corner and starts to run down river. It was pretty crowded so I walked down by PSO. I got one strike and missed it. Then the water started coming up so I trekked out of there back to the truck.

I think I'm going to have to meet one of you guys up there sometime because I was pretty much just chucking and duckin the clouser. Swinging it through the drift with a tight line and then stripping it back to me or letting it sit at the end of the drift for a while before stripping.

Since this was my first time, I don't really feel like I was fishing the right spots or the right way.

Anyway, I was glad to, at least, get out and wet a line. It gave me an opportunity to teach myself how to do a double haul.
