Members billynwtf Posted April 14, 2009 Members Posted April 14, 2009 A while ago while fishing the Spring River at dam#3 I had my Orvis TLS 5weight stolen out of my truck. I had been in the river for awhile and with lots of people around I needed to go head to the blue porta- potty. I failed to lock the doors and some jerk stole my rod. Well I have been looking for a new rod and I was on a budget. I ordered the ROSS rod and all I can say I consider it just as good as the Orvis rod. I have been on two trips with this rod and it preforms in some ways better than the TLS. I have thrown everything from dries to streamers with no problems. If you are looking for a new rod dont let the price of this rod fool you.
vanven Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I have a TLS 5wt as well. It was my first real fly rod after a couple of Cabela's combos. I had very similar feelings when i got my new rod about my TLS. "I paid what for that Orvis rod?" Disappointing. And anyone caught stealing from a fisherman's car should be shot on the spot. -Jerod
dave potts Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Sorry about your loss. Pretty low life to steal a guy's flyrod. Yes, those Ross rods are very nice for the money. There was a writeup in one of the fishing magazines a few months ago that rated about a dozen rods and the Ross Essence came in with a very high rating and was by far the lowest cost. I believe the magazine was Fish And Fly. As I recall, they sell for only $100. Dave
