Members jimrandolph Posted April 16, 2009 Members Posted April 16, 2009 Well, my friend and I are all set to arrive in Alton Friday night for a one-day float / fishing trip on Saturday. The weather looks potentially a little sketchy, hopefully it will cooperate. That being said, I have received a lot of good information on this site on the past couple of weeks. Does anyone have any last minute tips for our trip? Any updated recommendations as to which section of river to fish? We don't care much if we are fishing for trout or smallmouth; rather, just anything that is biting better. Brian, I haven't called down to your place yet to officially reserve a canoe, but we would like to rent one canoe, preferably an Old Town canoe, or something similar suitable for fishing. If you get this prior to Friday, just let me know if I should call.
Brian Sloss Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Jim, I'll look for you Sat morning, but will be out of town until Friday night as my mother has taken ill. we will have an old town for you to use for sure. If you need anything before that feel free to call me on my cell phone @ 417-270-2497. Brian www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Members jimrandolph Posted April 16, 2009 Author Members Posted April 16, 2009 I'm very sorry to hear about your mother; I hope things pan out well. Before we take off, any last minute recomendations as to which trip we take? It won't matter much, but if you think we should attack the smallmouth I wanted to grab a couple artificial standbys (white flukes, gulp worms, minnows etc...). Otherwise we are planning on obtaining minows once we hit the river, which should work for both.
Mark Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 As of this past weekend, the river hasn't been stocked yet this year with trout. Fishing was slow in White Ribbon Area. At least so I hear, since I spent last Thurs. and Friday hanging out at the cottage playing pitch and BBQing. Rained all day Thurs. and cold and windy on Friday. But others in our group toughed it out fishing. But had to work for the fish. Good Luck!! Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Catching fish is always a bonus, but you will enjoy the scenery.
Members jimrandolph Posted April 17, 2009 Author Members Posted April 17, 2009 Well, due to the weather, we won't make the trip this weekend. It looks like a 70% chance of thunderstorms; a little too risky for a 4 hour drive. darn it.... We will be there soon though.
