OzarkFishman Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I hit the park yesterday (4/29) and today. Only for a total of 1.5 hours over the 2 days. I caught 4 largemouth, none with great size, but still fun. All caught on a 1/16 ounce jig with natural colors (smoke, green, and black/silver). Missed a few bites, but a good time none the less. Water looks good above the spillway, but is up below. OzarkFishman
smallmouthjoe Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Seeing your report really makes me want to hit the park. I'm all bogged down with finials this weekend but maybe i can find sometime next week. Thanks for the report.
OzarkFishman Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 With the water being up a couple feet yesterday, I took my lure and swam it over vegetation that I had seen a couple days earlier when the water was down. Only one taker, but my biggest yet at Finley Park. The fish had some good fight and took my 4# P-Line Floroclear into some brush, but the flourocarbon coating held up like a champ. OzarkFishman
smallmouthjoe Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 What your you using? I'm thinking about buying a pack of frogs to swim over the vegetation. I never used frogs before but I think it will work.
OzarkFishman Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 I've just been swimming soft plastics on a 1/16 oz jighead. Same as on any body of water, vary the speed until you find what works. As for frogs, I would say they would definately work. I plan on trying them out there this summer. The lily pads should make it a perfect scenario for frogs. Sometimes, you even get into some nice crappie on Finley. PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE!! OzarkFishman
RSBreth Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hey, nice Crappie. You can catch some in our area rivers, but most folks don't know about them. I don't know how many times I've caught a couple out of the slow slack water around a down tree in Bull Creek, but most don't think that's possible, either.
smallmouthjoe Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 There used to be a nice crappie hole about 1/2 mile up from the 1-60 bridge. The biggest crappie I've ever caught came from that hole. The last time I checked though there were no crappie to be found. I guess someone decided to have a fish fry.
