Leonard Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I hit the water about 9pm and left around 1am (maybe a little after)... I was the only one there.. I left because I got broke off by something really big.. and I forgot my extra leader fishing was FANTASTIC!!! I caught atleast 50 fish and maybe missed as many.. so would hit so soft it felt like you were bumping the rock.. other would dang near rip the rod from your hands... I fished from chute 2 down past the big hole (a lot of big ones jumping). The biggest I got to hand was a nice 23in bow on an olive mohawk sculpin.. but the trouble with them tonight, was after catching 6 or 7 they wanted a diffent color.. they would go from black to white.. and olive to a gray.. and even caught afew top water..after fishing for 5 to 10 minutes without a stike I had to switch colors.. and they would tear it to pieces... tonight was a very peaceful night!! http://www.taneycomonights.com
mizzouflyfisher Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Leonard- It seems like you catch a lot more fish nightfishing than I do. I've gone a few times, but I usually only seem to catch a few on flies, but I do well on rapalas. How fast do you generally fish and how deep. I think I might fish too deep and too fast, but I'm not sure. Thanks. Mizzouflyfisher
Leonard Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 Mizzouflyfisher... I have been night fishing for over 7 years on taneycomo... but not on a reg. basis... I useally start with one thing and do all different types of strips and drifts... then the next time I go I start with the one I finished with the last time I went... I spent 3 years in Neosho Mo for my wife to graduate nursing school.. I came back last june to Branson (Ridgedale).. since this time I have been on the water 3times as many nights then days.. Im guessing maybe 15-20 nights a month.. yes there has been a few nights not worth reporting on... but I still catch a few.. maybe under 10 (is a slow night).. the next time you make it down, Id be more then willing to meet you there and drown a fly in the moonlight. Leonard e-mail for my number and lets try to set a date.. http://www.taneycomonights.com
tippet7 Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 I have fished with Leonard a few times at night. one night i was there about 30 mins ahead of him, in 10 mins he was already ahead of me in catches! You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Murdoc Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Do you have a pic of the mohawk sculpin?? I've read about it in the fly blog but I'm a show-me boy! Thanks!!! Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
Leonard Posted April 8, 2006 Author Posted April 8, 2006 Pictures are in the fly tying archives... along with how to tye it http://www.taneycomonights.com
mizzouflyfisher Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 I'd be grateful spending a night learning how to effectively nightfish. The first couple of times I went out, I used my fly rod excusively, but I found the rapalas to be more effective. I would like to learn some techniques and effective flies. Next time I come down, I will be sure to try and hook up with you. Mizzouflyfisher
