Well time for a new challenge. Since i was young i have wanted to learn how to fly fish. But as with life time never allowed. That's about to change. What i am wondering is where do i start? Do i take a class and with who? I can cast a little but nothing pretty. What i am really wanting to learn is what to fish, when and how ect. I know that comes with time but i have to start somewhere. Basically i am a beginner looking for direction. More than likely will fish the tail waters of Bull Shoals more than anywhere. Thank you guys for any and all direction you can give me!!!

You are on the cusp of a magic journey. I would start with casting lessons. I would then hire a guide to spend the day just showing me how to wade, rig a rod and fish. Pick up a copy of Home Waters and join the local fly fishing club. Good luck!

Mr. Berry is spot on. Getting direction in casting will eliminate alot of frustration down the road. A good guide will be able to help with your cast as well as teach you about the do's and dont's of fishing. There is no shortage of good guides in your neck of the woods. Look over this board a little bit and also seek out a local fly fishing club. A majority of what I have and will continue to learn has been helped along by the guys from our local fly tying/fishing club.

That was kinda the direction that i was thinking. Does anyone know the local fly fishing club in the Mountain Home area? And can anyone throw out some names for casting classes and guides? I am like a little kid at Christmas!! :D

Well you have a good start with one of the guys who posted in this thread....and his name doesnt start with a Z or a T. ;)

Might check out the North Arkansas Fly Fishers. There is alot of info there regarding guides and fishing areas.

Mr. Davy Wotton is another option for classes in all reagards of fly fishing. http://www.davywotton.com/index.asp

There are really so many good options in your neck of the woods, its hard to narrow down. Just paruse the White River forum here and visit some of the links. Many of the guides will have links to other area guides. That way you can kinda narrow down what your looking for, be it price, experience, gear, etc.

Best of luck. You are about to start a never ending, but highly rewarding journey.

That seems to be a problem for me. There are to many options it seems. It seems to be a little overwhelming. lol

All you guys are great!!!!

Throw a rock in Mt Home and you'll probably hit a fly fisherman who can teach you... LOL...

No.... don't really do that... Some of them it might break the rock... LOL

Get in touch with John... He will "guide" you in the right direction... pun intended...
