timsfly Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 We are very lucky, the water is still in good shape, we had a bit of rain over the weekend, but nothing that effected the river, the river is back to the levels that we had in march and is clearing. the dry fly fishing has really improved the past few days, we started doing much better on beetles, ants, cracklebacks, adams, lt. cahills, and we are catching few on stimulators. Use 7X when fishing dries and 9' leaders would be best, most of the drys I'm fishing are #16 and smaller, but a # 14 will work in the evenings ok, sometimes. Nymph fishing is as good as ever, copper johns, pheasant tails, zebra midges, larva lace midges, sowbugs, scuds, and burlaps have all been good this week, about any small nymph will work, #16's and smaller, I seem to do better with grays, black, olives, and brown nymphs, most of the time. Micro eggs, san juan worms, chamois worms, micro jigs, and small lead head grubs worked very well for a lot of people this past week, most fished them 18"-36" under an indicator. Large woolybuggers, and streamers are still working well, black, brown, olive, tan and white have all been good this past week. If you are fishing a spinning rod, then powerbait eggs are the best way to catch a fast limit, orange, white, flo. yellow and pink have been good colors all week. Powerbait worms are good also, cheese yellow, white, orange, and orange peel, have been best this past week. Gold spoons, black, skunk, brown and flo. orange spinners have all been good also. Marabou jigs in 1/32nd and 1/16th are still working well, dark colors have been best, black, black/yellow, olive, and dk. brown, in the mornings I seem to do better on white jigs, I think because I can see them better. Zone 3 fished very well for a few anglers, I sold a lot of nightcrawlers this weekend and had several good reports of nice fish being caught out of zone 3. Water is still dirty, not muddy, and it is clearing quickly, so the use of 2 or 3 lb line is highly recommended, good luck on the river this week.
