Whack'emGood Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I have your solution. Here it is!!!!! The Rocket Rod! http://www.asseenontv.com/prod-pages/rocketfishingrod.html Just kidding. I agree with crazy4fishin... surely you can somehow get her to go with a spinning reel. Good luck! If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
Gone Fishing Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 Thanks for all your opinions. Stuborn is not even the word for mine. Better get her what she wants. Eric, saw the Daiwa on the internet last night. If it holds up it is well worth the money not to have to here about from the back of the boat. Again thanks for all the input.
Members frosty Posted May 28, 2009 Members Posted May 28, 2009 My wife won't switch to a spinning reel either. Always used a zebco. This year we got a pflueger underspin reel and so far has worked great. Got 6# mister crappie line on. Took only a few casts to get used to the trigger.
focused fishing Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Gone Fishing, I've had the one I use for clients for about three years, fresh line, a good cleaning and some oil each winter keep it working like new. Of course it doesn't see a ton of use, but I can't complain. Members yeehaw Posted May 29, 2009 Members Posted May 29, 2009 Sold people alot of reels over the years and there are some that just want/need the spincast reels. There are only two out there that I have found that are worth a plug nickel. Zebco Omega $60 and Daiwa Goldcast III $55 There are a few features that set these reels apart even though the basic premise of the spincast reel is bad. The spools of both reels have better oscillating than any others on the market which helps keep the line layed correctly. Second is the pickup pins that swing around to grab the line as it wraps it around the spool. I believe that one of the reels has 3 pins while the other has 2 but don't quote me on that. The other difference is on the construction of the pickup pins themselves. Most spincasts use only one pin and it is usually plastic. The line wears a groove in the pin and bad things happen. These 2 reels use metal pickup pins that actually spin as the line passes over them. Keep in mind that these are still spincast reels so they are still poorly designed, but they do the best with their limitations. Probably 2/3 of the people that I showed those reels to wound up buying spinning reels after I spent just a couple minutes with them. And it sure feels better to have that $20 spinning reel in your hand than that $60 spincast. But if you HAVE to buy spincast, only buy one of those two. Hopefully that helped.
edwin Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I bought a Zebco Omega for my wife...seems like a nice product. I also picked up a Pflueger Cetina for my daughter that seems like a nice reel too. As the others have mentioned, they still are spincast reels but seem like decent products. "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
