I love the summertime. Gonna be hitting the rivers hard. Well, the Eleven Point is right on the top of my list, and me and a buddy are gonna float it late June. Gonna do a camp trip, probably gonna take off work and do it mid week. We were gonna do the Blue Ribbon area a day, but neither of us felt ready to tackle Mary Deckar, or a few of the other rapids I'd heard about up in that area. So the White Ribbon Area it is. We'll be splitting our time between trout and smallmouth bass, as well as fly and spin fishing. We'll camp on a gravel bar one night, and try to cover seven miles each day.

I'll admit I'm looking forward to the relaxing nature of a wilderness float more than I am the actual fishing.

If I bring Rebel Crawfish, Spinners, nightcrawlers, tube baits, and spinnerbaits, will I be pretty much set for both species?

Also (really, not trying to start an argument here, just asking), has the lead ban taken effect yet?

Thanks for any help.

There is no lead ban here, at least not yet. Mary Decker is more hype, than hard to canoe. Don't let that keep you from the blue ribbon area if you want to fish it. If you do go in the blue ribbon area, bring along some marabou jigs, !/16th in various colors as well.

I'll keep the jigs in mind... Is Mary Deckar Class 2 or 3? I can handle class 2, but I class 3 would really be pushing it for me.

The largest rapid I saw on the Eleven Point was well below Mary Decker, just before riverton and right after Boze mill spring (which has a fantastic camping spot, BTW), I definitely wouldn't let a little hype about the shoals and currents in the Blue Ribbon Area.

And remember, if it's June, when in doubt get out. that is, when you are in doubt about whether or not you can make it through a rapid area, get to the shoreline and get out. walk the boat downstream. Be safe, and have fun!

Oh, and DEFINITELY pick up the maribous.. Just make sure to get the smaller ones, I like the black with a red head and a white tail in 1/16th ounce. Second choice is White with a pink head (same size).

I'll definitely pick up a good selection of jigs based on what I hear.

Just a question for those who know. If I'm careful, and walk through the dangerous areas, is the Eleven Point generally dangerous?

I've heard a few stories anglers have had on the Eleven Point on this forum (mostly involving downed trees in fast water) that kinda make me a little concerned.

If its a kinda dangerous, I'll still go. But I'd like to know what I'm dealing with before I get there.

You can probably tell by now I'm no whitewater expert

It really isn't any more dangerous than the other float rivers in Missouri. A healthy respect for the river's power and you should be fine. The same way you should approach all the rivers.

One more question and I swear I'm done. A few more people decided they wanted to come, and I can't fit them all in my canoe. Only other boat I have is a 14" jon boat. Wouldn't be using a motor, just paddling. Would this be okay for the 11 Pt?

Hey, ask away! I promise that I won't complain, as long as you don't complain when the advice isn't perfect... LOL

My 16 ft river john gets around fine on the eleven point..

Complain? I appreciate any answer I can get LOL

Well, I think we got it all planned out. We're gonna do it like this....

Day 1. Cane Bluff to Greer, Day 2. Greer to Turner, Day 3. Turner to Whitten, Day 4 Whitten to Riverton

We may just do a three day trip and start at Greer, if the water levels are too low. But I'd really like to see the upper river if mother nature allows.

The Eleven Point sounds like just my type of stream. I'm so excited for this trip. I thought it was going to only be a two day trip, but I got it worked out where we can spend four on the river.

Gonna probably check out Turner and Boze Mill Springs as well. Just have to decide now whether to camp at Greer or Turner, we decided not to actually camp along the river, a few people on our group would prefer the more developed campgrounds, although honestly I would just rather camp on a gravel bar.

Greer is the nicer campground: outhouses, picnic tables, fire rings, water sources, trash service, and camp hosts for $10/night/site. Turner is more primitive with one outhouse, but is free.
