Jeremy Hunt Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 May 29 2009 Low water one day and streamer fishing the next Had a few trips with some good ‘ole boys from Kansas City and Atlanta. These guys were all members of TU and a few of they were lifetime members that have fished all over the world. They were clients of John Berry that were down as a group so he asked if I could help out. We really had some great water and the results were just as good. The first day I had Jim and Pete and they were about three years into the sport. We were able to hook tons of fish in low water, we actually lost count about an hour into the day and it stayed that way pretty much the whole day. Nothing big, but Jim did hook a brown that gave him a lesson in letting the fish get on the reel. Jim, I think tried to stop him too soon. I never saw the fish, but I could tell it was big by the way he took off. It was good practice and I’m sure he’ll learn from that. If you don’t have a few big fish under your belt you can bet you’re in for a few to get off before you understand how to get these big boys in. The next day I had Bob and Gary. Gary wanted to throw streamers and the day couldn’t have been any better, cloudy skies with a few showers off and on. We hooked four really nice browns in the course of the day with each hooking two a piece. We caught a bunch of other fish on streamers along with cutthroats and rainbows. We had a few bigger ones follow all the way to the boat, but when they noticed the boat they left the building. I was able to do some footage for everyone to see so I hope you enjoy them as much as we did. It was one of the better days I had streamer fishing this year. Today I went out and did some pleasure fishing with my buddy John. We put in around 3pm, it was sunny skies and I didn’t think we would catch anything too big because there were a ton of boats and debris in the water. Well… I learned something today. That wasn’t the case at all. I broke off one of the biggest browns I’ve had on in the last month. And hooked it 20 minutes into the day, when I say “broke off’ I literally mean just that. I broke my 8wt on this fish. I wish I could’ve landed this beast. He was pushing 27-28 inches and it was a beautiful fish. I had him on for a few minutes and thought I had this one in the bag. It truly broke my heart and I’m still thinking about it as I’m writing this. John managed to hook his, but me on the other hand I couldn’t land any of them. I must have had four more big hits, but couldn’t get any of them in. I think the other rod I had on board wasn’t stiff enough to get a good hook set. All I can say is I’m going to 9wt with the 450 grain. I think it wears out 8wts that’s for sure. So the tip I can give you is when you think the water is bad because of debris floating in the water, I think it gets the bigger browns to feed because they don’t want to comb through all the trash to find smaller stuff when they can key in on what they know is the good stuff, which is something big to eat. I got footage of Johns brown, I should have it uploaded tomorrow. Accept the drift.....<>>><flysandguides.comVisit my blog
Micheal Kyle Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Awesome footage of nice Browns!!! You got it going on. Now if I could just figure out how to get this shop to run itself so I could get out. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Jeremy Hunt Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 If you can get down here I'll show you some of my honey holes. I'm off on Wednesday and the cfs is prime for hooking some monsters. Give me a call if you can make it. I hooked one last week that was truly amazing, big male. Accept the drift.....<>>><flysandguides.comVisit my blog
