ozark trout fisher Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I was fishing the Little Piney a bit last weekend, and I was wondering if there was any fishing to be had up in Lane Spring Branch. It looks big enough to hold a few wild trout, and I would certainly think cold enough, but who knows. I looked in the regs book, and noticed that the spring branch is part of the Blue Ribbon Area. So is it public, and are there fish? Just so you all know I always fish c&r only in little creeks like that. Thanks for any info you can give. If anyone doesn't feel like telling me on a public forum, feel free to PM me.
Randall Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Never fished it, but if MDC lists it as public, it would certainly give you a valid reason to be there. Just make sure you stay within the listed boundaries. Cute animals taste better.

Members UAK squirrelpie Posted June 15, 2009 Members Posted June 15, 2009 The actual spring branch of lane spring isn't that long, and the times i've fished there I don't think I've caught anything out of the actual spring branch. The fishing is much better in the creek immediately below. The spring branch is indeed public and is contained within the USFS Lane Spring Recreation area, which is a day use/camping area with a $2 or $3 day use fee.

I have caught trout up to 5 lbs in the Little Piney, but I have not caught anything in the Branch itself. The whole area is a Blue Ribbon tout area with wild trout populations. There is a $2 parking fee to fish the stream. It is artificial only, no plastics or live bait, and you can only keep ONE trout over 18 inches. I just C&R when I fish this place. TIP: Use a brown, tan, black, or olive wooly bugger on #5 flyline if fly rodding, or a 1/32 oz. jig in white or yellow/black if spin fishing, and use no more than 4lb test Maxima line. There are large trout in all the holes downstream from the park to the hwy "W" bridge, but be careful if you fish up by the "Vida Bridge" because it is private land on both sides of the river.
