Just was wondering if anyone out there has done any fishing on the Spring river? Seems awful quiet out there!

Fished the Spring first week in June. Caught lotta rainbows at Lassiter and below Dam 1 on nymphs amd pupas. Tried streamers/crawdads below Dam 3 for bigger fish. Caught lotta small browns and chunk rainbows. Had one 'bout 5 pounder break off! :o Found some small browns in some still water and had a blast on a dry fly. Used a Renegade w/ white hackle to see it better. Don't think it mattered... ;) The water is up a little and not completely clear yet.

Any recent reports from anybody? The report from the fly shop has been carbon copy for a couple of months now. Did the rains effect it any and does the fall DO become a problem for fish activity? Antsy about another trip in a couple of weeks. Thanks for any info. Later DL fish_moves.gif

Things have been slow during the hot weather but with the cooler temps I think the trout will really turn on. I was going to go this morning but I have a sick little one that needs to go see doc. If things go good with doc I will slip off in the morning and give it a try. I will post a report if I go.

I did finally get to the river. I have a houseful of sick people including myself. The day spent on the river was great but I am paying for it now. Anyway started off at Riverside just above the falls with a olive wolly bugger. The trout slammed the bugger for about two hours nothing real big just average stockers. Things slowed a bit and I needed a rest so I drove to Lassiters and tried a y2k and a snail fly. Caught 5 fish there and then the bite stopped. After a hour fishing trying everything in my box I was in need of a cup of coffee and some cough med. I finally ended up back at Riverside catching a few more when my sick body decided I needed to go home. In all I caught and released 37 fish not bad at all nothing big but thats okay.

Well, my buddy Billy and I made a trip to Riverside yesterday afternoon and was met with a milky river, but after driving for almost 2 hours we gave it a shot. The river was up and running fast which made wading somewhat tricky. A few fish were caught, mostly on a BH Black Wooly. The wind was another factor. I took my Powell 3 wt. and that made casting somewhat of a challenge. Overcast and windy, I think the water was warmer than the air!! :D Basically the technique which seemed to work best was to cast upstream and continuously mend as it was coming down. Fish seemed to hit it at just about the end of the drift. most trout caught were in the 13 to 14 inch range, but in that fast water and a 3 wt. sporting a 6X tippet made it fun. Plans are to go next week if the water clears up.
