Members DLM84 Posted June 11, 2009 Members Posted June 11, 2009 Hello all, I have been fishing since I was a little kid off and on. Just going when ever people say they are biting and bringing what they say they are biting. I do so so even when people are yanking them in left and right. No matter if its crappie fish or bass or pan fish or catfish or what ever fish. I was in a local fishing tackle store and notice several different types of fishing books and it got me wondering. Are they any good? What fishing books have YOU read? and were they helpfull? Is there a series that is Really good at teaching every thing there is about a particular fish? I picked up one called "The freshwater angler" on walleyes (A fish I always had trouble targeting) and it had loads of data, but looked like a lot of work to figure out. Is it a good series? or are there better ones around? I really need some thing to teach me fishing. Thanks all, DLM

He wrote two amazing books, Freshwater Bass, and Trout. In my opinion, they are the two best fishing books ever written. The writing style is really easy to read, and most importantly, the fishing advice is still very relavent, although both books were written in the 1940s. These are great books, written by a true legend. They are absolutely a must have for any fisherman. Happy fishing

rps Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Don't spend money. Take a trip to the library and check put old issues of a magazine called In Fisherman. The information in these applies to all species.

Of course that's probably because no one really needs to read a book in order to learn how to catch them
RSBreth Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Any of the In-Fisherman series of books or DVDs' are good. Subscribing to the magazine is good, too. In-Fisherman<-click here. I don't think much of the North American Fishing Club, but I do have a couple of their books, and those are actually pretty good. The tip about your library is a good one, I use COOLCAT to request books from area libraries transferred to the Ozark library. I don't know if your library is part of that system. Fishing with an experienced person for the fish you are targeting helps. Ask someone from the board who is close to you to go some time and pay for the trip or gas or whatever. You're already doing something by asking here, most of the people here will be glad to help answer any reasonable question.

ozarkgunner Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Thanks all, I really appreciate the help. Fishing is like surgery, you can't just read about it......... It has to be done to learn from it. Just my two cents. Angler At Law
