newbie to the white fishing report

My wife and I finally made the trip to Arkansas to fish the white and norfork. We fished the Norfork on Sat around Quarry Park. On Sunday we fished Rim Shoals. Both days were good. The fishing is somewhat similiar to Taneycomo but definitely different.

Rim Shoals is just a beautiful area. I was hoping to see the caddis hatch but it never came off. But we both caught fish throughout the afternoon on a variety of small nymphs. A lot of little 10 to 11" cutthroats but some decent 14 to 15" rainbows as well. I'm curious in that on both rivers we both caught a lot of small cutthroats. We caught plenty of decent rainbows as well and I'm certainly not complaining but I'm just wondering if that is the norm? I posted a separate report on our trip to the Norfork. We stayed at the whispering woods cabins just above the dam. I can't wait to come down again.

Sounds like you guys had a good time, good to hear.

As far as the "norm" for Rim, you pretty much hit it. Don't get me wrong there are some big fish there but a lot of the time you can catch a ton of stocker to a little bigger than stocker sized fish. There are times when you will almost catch 1 to 1 Cut to Rainbow and then other times you won't hook a cut...go figure.

When are you going to come over and fish the NFOW with me?

Greg,Most of the fish in Rim are the sizes you mentioned. There are some larger fish but it is not the norm. As to the hatch, I have found that if I fish dries without a hatch I still catch several fish that way. The fish are looking up and are ready to hit the top.

Try some dry fly fshing over brookies at Norfork.. just about anywhere.. you will be surprised at thier cuteness too! best future fishes - Brian

We went to the norfork and my client hit a nice fifteen inch brookie today on a worm brown san juan worm. He had shoulders and put up a heck of a fight. The brookies are my favorite.
