Fishmeister Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Got to hit the water some this past weekend. The gill fishing was on fire, surface temps in the upper 70's low 80's. Fly rod or ultra light, I love catching these things. A few pics of the fish.
loo10 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Oh my gawsh, that brings back memories. I LOVE doing that. Had loads of ponds I used to fish when I lived in central Missouri. Now I live in Springfield and farm ponds are in short supply. Congrats. Looks like a fantastic fish fry is in your future. loo10 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 loo10, Yes, pan fried, deep fried or shrimp boiled, fish chowder, they all taste good!!! Scale them sometime and rub them with oil. Place them on your grill. Once done, dip the meat in clarified butter like lobster. Ooo-eeeee baby! FishinCricket Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 What is the easiest way to de-scale a gill?? Hand the filet knife to fishinwrench! At least, that's how I get 'em cleaned... cricket.c21.com
et84 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 What is the easiest way to de-scale a gill?? I've always used a spoon or a pocket knife- never tried a scaler or anything like that, but for as many gills as you came away with I might look into one.
