ozark trout fisher Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Well, going to Montauk this morning for the buzzer. The only problem is I live three hours away, so here I am having to get up at 2 AM. The plan was to head to Maramec Springs, but its blown out, and Montauk isn't. Well wish me luck both staying awake and catching fish.........................................................
3wt Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Yup. I've done the one day there and back fishing from buzzer to buzzer (on only a few hours of sleep - ya know the night before trout jitters...) and almost fell asleep on the drive home. Nowadays I tend to do Cardiac for single-day trout.

Nowadays I tend to do Cardiac for single-day trout. Managed to stay awake, but that was about it. Got to my favorite hole at the buzzer, and fished an hour an a half an only caught one rainbow. Then went up into the catch and release area, where I stung three (but all were lost before I could get them in the net) , the largest an approximately 1 1/2 pound brown. Went back to the hole in the catch and keep area where I started the day at. Caught my limit by noon, nothing on the stringer better than 15". In the catch and keep, Powerbait did the trick. Orange glo-bugs hooked three I lost in the C&R. Still fun to get out and go. Very few people fishing today, didn't have to worry about getting my spots invaded like usual. By the way, I saw a guy walking around with seven trout on his stringer, still fishing. Not even remotely cool.

Or, if you don't want to take a photo, pull out your cell phone and call Operation Game and report them. Doing nothing about just keeps the problem going. Or maybe you did report it and not indicate it on a public forum. I think if the poachers know they will get reported, that will help reduce that kind of activity.

I know what I should have done in this situation, and I didn't do it. At the time, I didn't want to leave my spot to get up and drive to the hatchery office to report him, but I aknowledge that would have been the right thing to do................. Next time. Mr. Poacher, you know who you are.
DoveTail Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 The 800# to report game violations is: 800-392-1111 I have it programmed in my phone, I think everyone should program it. Law enforcement is spread thin and only has so many eyes, if violations can be reported and immediate, I think that would be good. The word will get out or other potential violations may not occur if they see the enforcement taking place.
