Members Jsneed Posted June 20, 2009 Members Posted June 20, 2009 Fellow Fishermen, I need a new fishing adventure for my group of six 40+ male friends from STL. Our trip is always in late October or early November. We usually drive on Thursday, rent a large cabin, fish Friday and Saturday, and drive home on Sunday in time for the football game. One member has a large jet drive john boat that two of us fish from. For the past five years we have smallmouth fished the six miles above the Black River at K-Bridge using live crawdads. We take the same six-mile float both Friday and Saturday. The catching is on the small side, but is always steady except for the Taum Sauk year. We are tiring of the crippling canoes and the same scenery. For the five years before that we trout fished the White River renting john boats from Rosie's Dock. We enjoyed that, but tired lazy trout. We did float the Buffalo for smallmouth one of those years, but we had to walked the canoes way too much. I'll never forget one of the locals saying, “We never float the Buffalo this time of the year.” Can anyone recommend another two-day October outdoors adventure in Missouri or one of the adjoining states for the six of us. It doesn't have to be fishing both days, but we need a large comfortable cabin for cooking and cards in the evenings. The fishing action needs to be pretty steady and we only have one boat so we need to rent boats or canoes. We'd like to keep the total cost at or below $500 a man for the trip. One in the group mentioned finding a pay lake to slay some largemouth. Another mentioned renting ATVs for one of the days. Fishing for catfish might be fun too. Any ideas for a new Great October Fishing Adventure for the Sneed Brothers group?
