Members tinner Posted June 23, 2009 Members Posted June 23, 2009 Can anyone tell me about the construction on Dry Run Creek. Is it over? Has it effected the fishing? I'm planning on taking my son on his first fishing trip in a couple of weeks. What are the staple flies down there. Tim
John Berry Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 The construction only affected the very lower end. it is complete and should not affect the creek. You should use sowbus, San Juan worms and Y2Ks. Don Allenbaugh Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 There is a complete overhaul of the entire length of Dry Run on the books. They have not started it as of yet. They completed the survey and started the planning last summer. They are going to build walking paths and do habitat restoration. They have not started that as of yet. The only construction that has been done is the removal of the bridge at the lower end as John Berry said, but that is not a part of the restoration and habitat improvement project. Don A
Brian K. Shaffer Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Are there any links about this out on the internet Don ? I would be interested to see an artists rendering of the finished construction. cheers, Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Don Allenbaugh Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Brian, None that I know of. I was showing a visitor Dry Run one day last fall and the AGFC guys were there doing some survey work. I talked to the head honcho and he told me that they have plans in the works. Haven't heard anything lately other than they did some work at Wildcat Shoals and have some work planned below the dam. There famous saying is "two weeks". When they did the habitat restoration above Jenkins Creek I signed a agreement sometime around 2002 or 2003 to allow them use of the ramp at my place. They finally started about 3 years ago and it took them 18 mos to finish it. They used to come down about every other month for several years and told me they would be starting in about "two weeks". So who knows when they will get around to Dry Run. Probably in two weeks. Don A
Members tinner Posted June 29, 2009 Author Members Posted June 29, 2009 Hopefully not in 2 weeks. That's when I'm bringing my son down .
Brian K. Shaffer Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Don - Jenkins Creek.. the one on Bull right ? Above Rim ? If so.. one of my fav spots. I used to use a yellow cataraft up there a bunch. I would put in at Donnie Wallace's place. Big fun up at Jenkins creek. Lotsa dry action. I hope the " 2 weeks " doesnt turn into 2-3 years on the Norfork work. UGH! cheers, Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Don Allenbaugh Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I think you mean Jenkin's Creek on the White and yes that is the one I was talking about. Don A
Brian Wise Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Hey Brian, I saw the model of Dave Whitlocks plan for Dry Run about a year ago...pretty cool and about 6 or 7 feet long. Since then I have looked all over for something online about what they are going to do, plans, models, anything and have come up empty. Just a thought, shoot Dave or Davy Wotton an email to see if they have anything. Brian My Youtube Channel
