zander Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 So I am meeting a couple of college buddies in Mtn View, AR for a weekend of camping and fly fishing for trout. On this section of the river while fly-fishing do your hooks have to be barbless?

On this section of the river while fly-fishing do your hooks have to be barbless? I don't recall any areas that would require it. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
John Berry Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 There is a Catch and Release section on the White River a bit up stream from there that requires barbless hooks. It will be clearly marked. Look out for the signs. It has been proposed to be eliminated next year. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
taxidermist Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 LOL, its not the lower White. Mt View is about the end of the trout area unless its winter then you can catch trout as far down as Batesville, but not many!!! You may look for Crappie in the edges and even some good largemouth. I know of many 5-6 largemouth caught this spring near the Sylamore launch area.
zander Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 I saw more suckers than trout. I zeroed and my friend only caught one 7 inch cutthroat. Water was really dirty and full of moss floating white masses which I had no idea what they were. the river looked a lot different than what I saw this spring up by Cotter. I passed over the north Fork of the White River on the way home today and that looked gorgeous.
Members curtis bias Posted July 17, 2009 Members Posted July 17, 2009 Yeah, but it was a fun trip anyway. I talked to a buddy of mine that is a guide. He also said we should have been farther up on the White if we were after better fishing. By the way, I zeroed too, but I had a good time ahnging out with some great folks.

From my experience, that's a drift fishing area. Pull the boat up to the edge of the C and R area and drift back to the mouth of Sylamore. Lots and lots and lots of stockers in that area if you are fishing for a meal.
zander Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 yeah, it seemed like it would have been good for drift fishing. I didn't bring that tackle box with me though. We tried to rig up something like it but there was so much junk (suspended structure) it would have gunked it up all the time anyway
Members mfaldon Posted July 20, 2009 Members Posted July 20, 2009 I was there over the weekend for the first time this year. Worst fishing conditions I've seen in the 3 years I've been going there. I've never seen it that muddy.
