I have been tying this for a few years using rabbit for big leech patterns on the White. Leave it to Leonard to come up with a great idea using the Pine Squirrel.

Oh I might have come up with a new name for his show Leave it to Leonard :lol::lol:

I can see it know him and his sweater vest in the water.

The way that I tie it is take the Pine Squirrel and tie in a tail then take UV Polar Chenille tie it in. Now take the pine squirrel and the UV polar chenille twist it together tightly together then take and palmer it up to the bead. tie it off.

For bigger versions tie it with rabbit

To be honest with you I have no idea who came up with the pattern, I was out fishing the Upper Missouri 5 years ago and I saw it in a fly shop. Fished it up there caught some nice Rainbows and some nice Browns so I started using it down here.

Like I said the one that I tie is with rabbit because I tie them big. The one Leonard ties is with pine Squirrel but no matter if you tie with rabbit or squirrel it is the same fly. Not sure where the Hibernator name even came from that must be a name that Leonard gave it.

I really do not think it matters who came up with the pattren I just answered how to tie the fly!

Here are some fish that I caught up on the upper Missouri on the fly
