Planning on being around this weekend and was wondering if there was any place to catch some stripers on the fly rod. I have heard people talk about catching them up at the dam but I personally haven't ever fished past about the cable. Any information would be great. My father and I are planning on coming over and doing some trout fishing as well so hopefully see some of you guys out there.

Oh, and one thing that you may be interested in. Bass Pro in Oklahoma City has the White River Two Seventy reel on sale right now. It's a really nice looking reel. I don't know how good it actually is but it is online for 209.99 and they have it marked down to 109.99. I was able to get 2 rain checks for a friend and myself. If anyone is interested let me know and I may be able to arrange something. They have everything from 4 wt i think all the way to 9.

I got the Two Seventy combo for $229 in 6wt. (It was on sale at the first of the year) The rod was great. The reel looked great but as soon as it got a little wet it would start locking up. I took it back after reading many reviews with people quoting the same issues. They gave me another reel and it did the same thing. Took it back and got credit. Maybe that's why they are on clearance? I did manage to catch some nice striper on it before I took it back.

That's what I've been reading. I ordered one and actually got it last night. The sale was not supposed to be a sale according to the manager but since we had a rain check they granted it. Apparently it was a father's day special that was overlooked. I am leery of the drag system due to what everyone has been saying so hopefully it doesn't do bad else i'll be trying something different. What is a good line for stripers? I've been looking at several different ones. I would like something that can generate some distance fairly easily.

If you are going to pay $229.00 for a Combo, which the reel is a piece of junk, a the white river rods are just so,so,. Buy a Sage Launch!!! They are availble in every weight for around $225 for two piece and $245.00 for a four piece. White River is a cheap import rod, once you cast a Low grade Sage, you will think you are a pro. Don't buy into the hype at Bass Pro!!

I agree with BFTMASTER, I understand if you're trying to break into the sport for cheap. But if you really think you're going to stick with it (which most do, its an addictive sport), spend the money and buy one of the "entry-level" rods from the high-end rod makers (Sage, Scott, Winston)

Sage has their Launch rods, Scott has their A3 rods, and Winston has their Accent rods. The Scott A3 rods start at $295 and the Accent rods are at $200, i think? I've fished with the Scott and the Winston rods...they're great rods.

Of the half-dozen rods I own, my personal favorite is my 8ft 4wt Scott that I got several years ago for just over $200. It was the entry rod Scott made before the A series rods. I love it.

Heck, buy a TFO fly rod. Their entry level rods that go out at $110 at Bass Pro are great. I have one of their 7wts and it casts like a dream.

I have had the WR Two Seventy in 6wt and currently have a WR CV2 in 8wt. The WR Two Seventy was one of the better rods I've cast in the sub $200 range. The CV2 is a decent rod, I got it on E-bay for $110 with reel and extra spool (float & sink lines) and cases for all. I don't use an 8wt that often so I'm happy with the CV2 for now. I'm more into ultralight fly rods now.

I currently have a TFO Professional Series in 4wt and in 5wt and will probably buy my 8 or 9 wt in TFO as well however a low grade Sage sounds tempting. I enjoy the fact that with TFO you can pretty much destroy the rod and it's still under warranty although I haven't had to test that out. The deal on the two-seventies is that I purchased the real for $109 instead of the regular price of $209. It was a BPS mistake. This wasn't a combo just a real.
