Members Fisherdan Posted July 3, 2009 Members Posted July 3, 2009 Can someone comment on how the dam being open or the generators being on affect the fishing on the Rock. My guess, it positions the fish on the points. I never read anything about this in the big publications, but it must be a factor. I just thought this would be an interesting topic. Thanks and good fishing Dan
mclothier1 Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Im pretty sure I heard the same thing from a guide we hired a few weeks back, And I dont think im giving away any of his secrets. But yeah I heard that when they are running water, that the fish are more likely to position on points, I dont know why? but my guess is that the fish are following their food source.

Thanks and good fishing Dan Dan, yes anytime you get a good flow of water through the DAM, it does place the fish on the points and seems to hold them on the bottom! My guess is that when there is flow over these long main lake points it places the shad groups and the fish right in the flow or just right to the sides of it. When there is no flow from the DAM it seems the fish will then move out and chase the shad groups out in the deeper water and suspened... But understand it takes days of water flow to really make a change, just like last year when we were flooded, they corp ran water for 3 months and the smallies were just everywhere on the main lake points. I will allways check with the DAM for flow before each day of fishing, gives me a little help as to where to start. Hope that helps some, GOOD FISHING EVERYONE Don Capt. rps Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 TR is in the middle of a chain. You can have four conditions: Nothing in/nothing out, flow in/nothing out, nothing in/flow out, and flow in/flow out. The water coming in is cold enough to change the overall water temp for several miles down stream. The flow out doesn't change our lake temp, but affects Taney. Up at this end I notice fish changes with flow in, of course, but do not see much change with flow out unless it combines with flow in. I will say that falling lake levels have always been a more difficult condition for me to figure. Hope that helps.
Members Fisherdan Posted July 3, 2009 Author Members Posted July 3, 2009 As Always you guys are great, and thanks for the info, I will be down the 18th, of July and will be fishing all week. Your reports always help me catch fish. Last summer I was lucky enough to get on that jig bite on the points after Capt. Don put me on em, we had a great day with him. My son and I caught em all week. From the reports, seems like the drop shot will be the pattern this year. I get out real early, and always keep a top-water lure tied on. Good Fishin, hope to see you on the water. Dan
