i needed to get a new pair of wading boots/shoes for a while now. My former basic wal-mart brand sandals were starting to fall apart and werent very comfortable. I would have bought another pair like this however it would appear they stopped carrying things like this for adult males. So i started looking at a REAL wading shoe/boot. With TU's big push to the new felt soled boots i too wanted to get something with no felt. This drops your picks down to a few. After much reading and reviews and such, i decided on the Simms Headwater with Stream tread boot. They are more expensive then their felt soled counter part at 150 bucks, but they are very well made. I can see these lasting quiet some time. They are INCREDIBLY light for a boot. The vibram sole is very comfortable ( if anyone wears merral shoes they will know ) and the streamtread pattern gripped very well. i was doing the testing at Bennett Springs, i walked on everything...just to see what they do and how they act. In the stream they gripped awesome. no lose of footing aside from my own lack of balance. The algae/mossy rocks they gripped well, did slide some but not nearly as bad as i was waiting for. The concrete slop they pore down the hills at trout parks it gripped REALLY good on...almost too good. The ankel support is very nice, i wore them all day long and my feet never hurt. the vibram sole is also nice because it completely eliminated the back pain/strain i usually get from standing/walking in the streams all day. only thing i would like about them more is that i wish the sole was alittle more flexible to better contour the rocks, but the grip was still maintained. overall...i would HIGHLY recommend these boots if you want a good light boot for fishing or hiking to your fishing spot and not wanting to change shoes.
