Members Cad Posted July 6, 2009 Members Posted July 6, 2009 Friday a buddy and I went down to Taney, we got there right at 5am to beat the crowd. We rigged up and headed to the rebar hole, beat everyone down there and got our spots. We setup across from each other right by the rebar. Right as daylight hit a dad and their two teenage sons set up shop directly in between us dropping their flies at their feet and drifting them downstream. We couldn't even cast and drift 5 feet before running into them. I didn't say anything to them figuring everyone has the same right to fish there, but it seemed very unethical to me. Would you guys have let it go and moved away and fished somewhere else, or would you have approached them? Ended up doing pretty good, but just didn't get started off on the right foot.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Gotta love it when they do the San Juan shuffle right in front of you and don't care. You probably took the high road and did the right thing by not causing any drama in front of the guys sons. But, personally, I'd either of said something or woulda casted right in their drift lanes and got them all hung up And yes...I'm an butt like that... But thats part of it when you fish at Taney. Especially when you're fishing a popular hole like Rebar. Lots of people try to squeeze in-between those 2 pieces of rebar and just hammer that water. There's plenty of good water downstream of that hole that a lot of people pass up, at least in my experience, it seems. Whatever though.... Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

And when you do that, you have to be sure to clip their line and keep their fly. That'll teach a lesson pretty quick, or they'll run out of flies. Zach Smith
tippett7 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 The best way to get rid of them is start throwing rocks in the water. Oops that may scare the fish away.
zsmith62 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 At the water??? I'd just aim for the shufflers... Zach Smith

Members trout4me Posted July 7, 2009 Members Posted July 7, 2009 I can only visit Taney a few times a year and had heard of the 'shuffle' but am usually too focused on fishing myself to pay much attention to others. I saw this same group and thought it was pretty ridiculous what they were doing. The funniest thing to me was they couldn't hardly catch anything.....but another kid in their group was throwing a crankbait on his spincast and wound up catching a 22" rainbow
