retroaction man Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I headed down to byrds for the weekend. Im talking my fishing yak since the water is low. Has anyone done any fishing there lately? if so can you give me any info on what to use were to fish ect. Thanks. I hope everyone get out at some point this weekend. Cheers
Snow Fly Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Retroaction Man:I noticed you mentioned a Yak, I assume it is a Kayak! What is the brand and how do you like the fishing from one. Is it a open deck? etc.Been looking and seem to have trouble making up my mine. "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
retroaction man Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 this weekend i will be useing my Perception Swifty. Its a rec boat closed deck. New they run about 300 and well worth the money. I didnt get it just for fishing. So if your looking for strictly a fishing boat you may wont to go with a open deck boat and if your budget is higher than that you can really get a nice boat. Check out the wilderness boats. Fishing is a little different in one. I have mine rigged with rod holders and bungee deck kits and a paddle holder as well. In my opinion its a blast useing it to fish. You have to be carefull of course.
damselfly Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 snow fly -- i recently purchased a kayak after renting many and fishing from them on different rivers....i tried the sit inside and the sit on top.....and chose a sit on top. yes, you will get wet, but it is much easier to get in and out of IMO. and besides i didn't see myself doing much kayaking in the winter so the getting wet thing, wasn't a big deal.... and besides when i'm on a river i like to wet wade. i got mine @dynamic earth in springfield.....it's real close to backcountry outfitters...and i bought a wilderness tarpon 120....i had been looking at them for a long time and decided to bite the bullet. if that's not in your budget, bass pro has some and occasionally has some at their outlet store too (don't know where you are located). they are a blast to fish from!! if you're undecided, rent some and try the different styles would be my suggestion to see which you prefer.

Wayne SW/MO Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Snow Fly there are a lot of good sit in kayaks available, just stay with the recreational models. I use a Pamlico 100, by Wilderness systems. There are fewer Sit on tops available for our streams, and in fact I think there is only one model, the Tarpons. The reason is that the scupper holes have some protection in the Tarpons, but others don't including the prowlers at BPS. Some kayaks are better suited than others for certain uses, so you should give a lot of thought on where and what kind of water you plan on fishing out of it. I have a Tarpon 120 also Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Snow Fly Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Thanks Guys: in the past have been looking at the Malibu Explorer but after reading some of the comments on the web I took a look at the Tarpon 120 on the net and it does impress me, also have a dealer right here in St. Louis so that should help out in $$$$. Again Thanks. "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Take some to time to determine if the 120 will suit you better than the 100. If I weren't going to do any overnights I would probably save the $$'s and weight by going with the 100. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
