Finall y got away from KC for a couple days. The stream looked very good to me and we caught a nice lot of fish. Found a new favorite fly, Renegade in sizes 18 and 20. Had tons of hits on them but only landed a few due to my lack of fishing lately. I've heard some rumors that they were stocking small trout but you couldn't get me to believe that. Also had some luck with soft hackles, olive and yellow in sizes 16 and 18. Had a down note in that someone took one of my fly boxes, a green cabelas box loaded with all ofmy nymphs. I'm really glad that I tie my own but also dissapointed in that someone would do that. I left the box on my vest and walked down the bank about twenty feet to meet my girlfriend. Oh well, gives me a good excuse to hit the bench. Travis

Great report and thanks. It's sad that someone would take a box, and in what could have been plain site.

Sounds like you had a great time other than the fly box. Don't people like that just really suck! Glad you had fun, sorry about the box. But, like you said - know you have an excuse to hit the tying bench. Thanks for reporting.

I hope it's not a sign of the times, but the past few years you really have to watch your gear in any park or conservation area. As far as the parks go, I don't know if the others are worse or better or the same. I try to tell folks not to leave their gear out in the open if I notice it as a friendly reminder. There were two guys during the last catch and release season left their new Orvis fly rods in their truck on a trip to the "John". You guessed it... gone. There are so many new faces these days, you don't think about someone grabbing a rod, vest, or box out of a truck or open vehicle. I don't know if Park Rangers patrolled more if it would help or not.

I think that this situation had more to do with me not paying attention and thinking that since I was away from KC that I could let my gaurd down. I hope the times aren't changing so much that crime starts to become a problem in the future for trout parks. I work at a golf course in a suburb of KC and have noticed that vandalism and crime are a problem in our area. In the last year we have had numerous vandals, one 450 dollar driver stolen and I found a .38 special on the course in a Crown Royal bag. This is one of the nicer public courses in the area and we still have problems with crime.

The main thing for me this weekend was that my girlfriend had fun. She caught fish on the spinning rod using jigs, one a 19' rainbow out of the C&R zone. I think that I have found a fishing buddy in her. Travis.

I guess having fished at Roaring River for 40+ years it really hurts to hear about someone stealing. Steve and Dano and a lot of others remember little kids running around the park without parents and not having to keep a look out for someone that might grab them. I was one of those kids!!! It's a total lack of respect!! You don't hear "Yes Sir" or "Yes Mam" anymore! Some of the old ways are the best way!
