CaptainJoe Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Lowrance announced their SructureScan technology. Everyone expected the SideScan similar to Hummingbird, but nobody expected the DownScan feature. Members Leitsout Posted July 16, 2009 Members Posted July 16, 2009 I bought a HDS 5 with Lake Insight mapping in April. I am extremely happy with it so far and can't wait to get the structure scan upgrade. I decided against the Humminbird because I caught wind that Lowrance had a version of the side imaging sonar in the works. I'm glad I went with the Lowrance unit after seeing the website and seeing the videos.
Fishing Buddy Don House Posted July 16, 2009 Fishing Buddy Posted July 16, 2009 Lowrance announced their SructureScan technology. Everyone expected the SideScan similar to Hummingbird, but nobody expected the DownScan feature. Check this out:::::: Lowrance Link to SructureScan Enjoy, Hope it works better than the units themself (as long as you don't fish in the rain!).. If it does you guys are going to love it, The downscan feature is old news Humminbird had this 3 years ago it's built into the SI modules and is standard with all of the Humminbird Si Units. Not really impressed with all of the hardware you have to mount in your boat now, but that is what they have to do.. Glad to see them get this out . Joe when you get it lets play and compare notes, love to see how they compare! Want to see if you will have the same problems like we had yesterday with two of the same units to close to each other and bleeding over to each other, the Humminbird is a 455 MHZ and a 800 MHZ SI unit, did not see what freq they are going to be... Joe we will let you buy it first and then you can report back and tell how it works and if any bugs just like the main units water troubles... Should be really cool for you Lowarnce guys... CaptainJoe Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 Don, Sounds good....I will be getting it as soon as it becomes available on the market. We can provide a great comparison. I may have to only do work on Sunny days. My unit has still not been out in the rain. As soon as my houseguests leave, I plan to turn on the hose and see if mine leaks. I talked to BassPro (Springfield) and if I have a problem, they will exchange my unit for another one on the spot, which is great. Yea, it is alot of stuff added to the boat, but I am glad to see that right out of the box that it will interface with the Sirius weather antenna and one transducer will work with both units. I will need to get the other network router so I can get Sirius weather on both units. I did not know that Hummingbird had a downscan feature. I have not seen any of their screen shots. As soon we stopped "fly fishing" and you left yesterday, the interference stopped on my HDS-10 up front. It did not interfer with the HDS-8 dash unit, so the Ping on the rear unit must have been perfect. But, I will not mess with it now, because I have both units insync and they do not interfer with each other. S&M Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Post deleted for the betterment of the members. As well as my membership on this website. How do I deal with those who ignore the 50 yard encroachment rule?......I show them just how accurate I am with a crank bait!
Fishing Buddy Don House Posted July 19, 2009 Fishing Buddy Posted July 19, 2009 Don, how do I acess the "down scan" on a 798? Didn't know HB had this feature, can't seem to find it in the manual... Mr. P on the humminbird units it is built into the SI screen shot you are looking at.. Not only does the humminbird unit at the same time look to left and right it also is looking down as well and displays it on your screen. Do you understand the centerline on your SI screen? That centerline you see is the center of the boat as you are moving forward, anything really close to that line on your screen is right under the boat or down looking. Or look at it this way if you go over a tree and your boat drives right over it you will see that tree on both sides of the center line on the SI screen, but right on the line on both sides, which is right under your boat. Then I can use my cursor on the SI screen move over to it and hit the zoom buttom, that will zoom into what ever you have selected in detail and can be zoomed in two more time for an even better view, Like fish in a tree top.. One of those things you have to play with to understand but it works very well, if you have more questions drop me a email and we can discuss more.. Good Fishing Don Capt.
