Wondering if Jeremy would do any classics wets, I am having serious trouble with the upright wings. They are wanting to split instead of bend at the tie-in point.

See how the wing "bends" at the tie in point.....yeah, mine don't do that.

Any Help Appreciated!

Brian,

Try smaller wings, fewer fibers. Also, they need to be tied more in front of your body materials and such, as well as your thread needs to be flat.

Mr. Wise, me too! I just can't get them to work properly. I have even tried coating them with some head cement to keep the fibers together, etc. Maybe we need a weekend tying session one of these days focusing on those wings. Go over and get some pro help from Davy B)

But what do you want to bet the fish don't care bout whether those wings have a little curve in em... :D

That's exactly right!!

I'm doing a little better now making them look good. One thing I was doing was using too big of thread...stupid mistake  . Bad thing is I'm running into the flies twisting pretty bad because of those upright wings. I have ended up splitting the fibers while on the water and yes, they still fish just as good without that pretty littl bend in them.

I'd still like to tie with Davy though..... :)

Are you tying any hair wings?

No, just some classic spiders and soft hackles. I have been pouring over Ray Bergman's book TROUT. Now it is full of classic wets. I tried a few, but again, I continue to have problems with the wings. Dano

The McGinty was always one of my favorite, but I think much of that comes from appearance, I don't remember it being very successful for anything but Gills.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
