Members KansasBoy13 Posted July 19, 2009 Members Posted July 19, 2009 Just wondering if anyone has been catching any gills? Last time I was down (middle of May) we were catching them really well on chunks of crawler in about 5 foot around docks. Assuming they are just deeper now? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
mclothier1 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I just got back from the rock, and found a few bigger gills down deep around 25ft or so. The place we stayed at had two docks and they are both fairly shallow, so I didnt have any luck there... except real small ones. Caught them mostly on worms, but I did catch a few messing around with a chartreuse beetle spin casted toward the bank where you can see underwater ledges and drop offs. Found them out on points pretty much the same place you go drop shotting for bass, but I also found a few back in the coves

Keep your eye on the graph and you should find them by trying two or three points. You will be amazed at the number of Kentucky Bass and Browns you will catch on crickets. et84 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 We went down last week and fished off a private dock, for bass. My brother caught a MONSTER gill, a little over 1 lb.- on a wiggle wart. Yep, a 3/8 oz. wiggle wart- and this gill liked craws, too. We filleted him up and found a 4 1/2" craw in its belly. "Sometimes it seems like such a hard life, but there's good times around the bend.
