Members trout_bum Posted July 21, 2009 Members Posted July 21, 2009 A friend sent me an article from the Joplin Globe regarding several proposed locations for new reservoirs here in Southwest Missouri. Shoal Creek, Indian Creek and Crane Creek were mentioned as possible candidates. Here's the article. http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/local_story_188215152.html It chills me to the bone to imagine what could happen to such a unique and fragile fishery in the future if they chose Crane Creek to be the source of water for an off-stream reservoir. Does anyone else here have anymore information regarding this? Corey Dodson "Trout everywhere tremble at the mention of my name."
redbird Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Chilling is the right way to describe that! Im not a Cardinals fan, but I am a Cardinal. If you know me you know what that means.
Members billegoat Posted July 22, 2009 Members Posted July 22, 2009 If you love the Crane, then remember that when an enviromental group such as the Sierra Club steps up to the plate to protect it. The same eviromental groups that are denigrated, scoffed at and and called tree huggers by so many as they fight in administrative courts and then federal courts for the spotted owl, some small fish or whatever, are the same that all of us will need if the Crane is going to be preserved, protected and not lost to reservoir. Is the Crane going to be possibly destroyed for a corporate farm/ranch?
Members tgard27 Posted July 22, 2009 Members Posted July 22, 2009 Do you think that TU would be interested in this story? God I would hate to see something happen to Crane.
zsmith62 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 They had a story in the Springfield paper about that a few weeks ago...We were talking about it on the Conservation Issues forum section, under the title "New Report On Reservoir Locations". Anyways, if this ever goes far enough to near fruition, you can be darn sure I will be ready to fight... I don't really think a darn on any of the streams mentioned in the stories is a good idea. I DO NOT support a new dam on any of the area waters. Zach Smith
Danoinark Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Definitely one to keep an eye on. Thanks for the updates. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
ozark trout fisher Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Definitely one to keep an eye on. Thanks for the updates. I just sent an email to the president of the Mid-Missouri chapter of Trout Unlimited asking for their help on this one. Hope it works out.

Buzz Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Excellent. A great idea. I hope you get some positive feedback. Let us know. Dano Ditto that. Something I don't think that has been mentioned is that if a reservoir was built on the proposed site on Highway 60 at Shoal Creek it would definitely effect Capp's Creek which dumps into Shoal Creek upstream. Capp's is only a White Ribbon stream, but I don't want to lose it. We have so few good places to trout fish in our area. Buzz If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
