Daveinozark Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I pass over lake Springfield every day on the 65 and see some boats with lines out. I'm wondering if anyone fishes there regularly? How do you fish it, if so?
et84 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I fish the lake sometimes- only because I live on the south side of Springfield and it is close. There are ALWAYS people there. It's last on my list of fishing places around town- but there are fish in the water. I have caught plenty of them, just no trophies. Since you pass over the lake on 65, you should try taking the Evans Road exit- it makes a big circle around the lake if you turn on Southwood st. Also, if you just take Evans west of the highway, you'll see access on both sides of the dam. I'v always caught something with livers below the dam, mostly cats. I fish the lake just like I would any other- use worms and craws (for bass), and pick your colors accordingly. Green pumpkin has always produced for me. I've heard dragging white spinnerbaits through the weed beds might catch you some lunkers, but never tried it myself. Good luck!! Members troutstudent2 Posted August 3, 2009 Members Posted August 3, 2009 I have fished Lake Springfield many times a couple years ago. The access off of Evans road by the Veterans Cemetery is a good start. Ive used a canoe and have caught a lot of bass up stream from the 65 bridge. I used a plastic worm, 6.5 inch blue electric culprit and had really good luck with some nice bass, I have also used a small jig and crawl to catch a few. I caught a lot of bass with several in the 4 to 5 lb. range even during the heat of the day during the summer. During the winter the colder the better, fish across the lake on the North side just up from the Dam across from the water outlet from the City Utilities using a finesse worm, I have caught a lot of fish from the bank on the north side of the lake using the finesse worm on light line. I have also seen several people catching some nice fish in the warm water outflow during the winter using live shiners. I have never kept any of the fish I have caught from Lake Springfield but they are fun to catch.
