rps Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I have never fished the Elk. I have paddled upon it, once, about ten years ago. I thought I might give it a go Thursday. Please suggest a one fishing day section for me to kayak and advise who I should call to hire a shuttle. Also, am I right that wacky Senkos , tubes, and maybe a buzz bait are about all I'll need to take? Thanks in advance.

Sugar Island campground was where we stayed, its a great campground but gets a little wild on the weekends,,, if u wanna catch fish,,, only go durin the week. One float they offer is from big rock to the campsite, takes about 5 hours with some good water to fish.. if u want a longer float, u can put in right at the campground and float to Mt.Shira,, 10 mile float, takes about 7 hours. We floated both stretches. Plastic worms seemed to work best, long casts cause the fish are spooky in the clear water. Hope this info helps.... GL!
Buzz Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 What Shadman said....You should be ok fishing on Thursday. The amount of traffic that river gets on the weekends is freaking crazy. Plastic worms are very good, green and motoroil worked pretty good last float, buzzbaits should be good early and late. Don't forget the crawdad baits, both hard and soft, you can't beat them. Buzz If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
hoglaw Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 PM WhackyWorm on this board. He runs an outfit down there and would be happy to put you on fish wherever you want to go.
