Members LB&M Posted July 28, 2009 Members Posted July 28, 2009 My wife decided she wanted to go to the War Eagle Fair in October. It's been several years since we were there. Anyway, this time I reserved a RV site at Withrow Springs State Park for a few days so we can just kick back. In the past I haven't really paid much attention to War Eagle Creek. The park brochure says they have canoe rentals. My questions are: Is it worth taking my kayaks along in mid October or will the creek be too low? And...Is it worth fishing this creek then? I'll probably take a flyrod anyway but just wondered for planning purposes. Thanks, Floyd Ike - Shooting Starr's Commander
Zack Hoyt Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 It is always worth bringing the fly rods......kayaks will depend on water levels. I would recommend waders and do some hiking along the creek. It is a beautiful place to fish, and not very crowded. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Its defiantly worth fishing. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
hoglaw Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I fish/float it a lot. It's not likely to be floatable in October unless we get a fair bit of rain. Used to be that hardly anyone floated it, but there's an outfitter operating below the highway 45 bridge now. I imagine he's taking people out at gar hole, but they may be doing takeouts at the Mill too.
Members LB&M Posted July 30, 2009 Author Members Posted July 30, 2009 Thanks all. I think I will leave the kayaks at home. This will be a trip to just kick back a little following a northern NM/southern Colo trip. I will bring the flyrods tho'. It will be a good opportunity to get to know a new TFO finesse rod that should be here in a couple of days. Ike - Shooting Starr's Commander
