Bittle Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I'm pondering heading over to try to fish the tailwaters but I had a question about the water output. Are they running any water and when looking at the gage, what is normal output and what is a good output. I can read the heights but that tells me nothing without the normal pool. On a second note has anyone been fishing the tailwaters lately?
emjay Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I was there last monday just showing some friends a good time. I knew it was gonna be tough with the corps not generating much. Caught alot of crappie (not many keepers) and only a few white bass (3). The water is pretty low still. Not much has changed for 2 weeks now. Although it seemed like alot of action, it almost seemed as if we were catch the same fish every time. Not worth the trip if you're going for hybrids I presume. Every fisherman has their own likings but I've usually had success when the gage is between the 28-30 numbers.
Members jnorman Posted August 1, 2009 Members Posted August 1, 2009 I was down on Wednesday and it was still the same story; lots of small crappie! As for the pool level, it is 659 ft above sea level for LOZ. The USGS sight does not go by sea level so I don't know exactly what the pool level is according to their scale but right now the lake is about 2 ft low so by looking at the USGS sight I'm going to guess pool level is around 29 ft. I wouldn't say there is a particular "normal output". It just depends on the time of year, rainfall, power demand, etc. Right now they're only letting out 350 CF from the floodgates, which is not much at all, and they have not been turning the generators on during the afternoons (probably hasn't been hot enough). I did talk to some guys that said the hybrids had been coming through in the evenings but they never showed up on wednesday. All in all, pretty tough fishing right now. The best time to fish is when it's raining . . . and when it's not!
