Members jwpage Posted August 3, 2009 Members Posted August 3, 2009 I went to the LIR yesterday. I got there about 11 am and left around 2:30 pm. Had a good day. Caught around 20 rainbows. What I noticed is that quite a few of the trout were 6 inches or less. The smallest trout I have caught. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. OKFlyFisher44 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Where were you fishing? I haven't caught anything under probably 10-12 inches yet on the Lower Illinois. I went this morning and caught 18 rainbows, all of them in the 12-14 inch range. Good ol' stockers! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

I was fishing around the are where the boulders are on the bank. Fairly deep hole. I was amazed at how small they where. OKFlyFisher44 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Thats where I fished yesterday morning, except I don't fish that deep hole next to the boulders. I go downstream of that area or I go upstream. I wasn't sure if there was any trout hanging out in that deep slack water...have to fish it next time. Everytime I fish there I catch trout. Sunday was the first time I caught such small trout though. It was fun never the less. I fish the area from the walk down area down from the parking lot down to where the big tree stump sticks out of the water. Okieflyfisher53 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Were the small ones browns or bows? There have been stockings of small browns down there in the past, but the bows are usually 12" or bigger when stocked. Steve

I thought it was quite unusual for them to be so small. "The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope." John Buchan
