Members mobluegill Posted August 6, 2009 Members Posted August 6, 2009 I'm going to Montauk next week. I have a few hoppers tied up. Any hot nymphs? or drys? I will start fishing the springs and then work my way down into the park. I want to float down the river one day. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Greg Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I've always done well on small beadhead nymphs like hares ear, PT, and zebras. Size 18 or smaller. For dries a griffiths gnat has done well for me. I've always done better on nymphs though. Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell

Members mobluegill Posted August 7, 2009 Author Members Posted August 7, 2009 I'm pretty well set with PTs and small beadheads. I'll pick up some smaller hooks Saturday when I go to Cabela's. Thanks. flyfshn Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 black ants always work well in the summer months, size 16 or 18 Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Kayser Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Don't forget some type of caddis dry, #14 or #16. And maybe some San Juans, if it's rained recently. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Geoff Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 18/20 griffens gnat...always a safe bet for if they are hitting surface "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
3wt Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I'd try some hoppers this time of year. I've also had luck on stimulators. At least having a big dry tied as your indicator makes nymphing more fun. ditto on the #10 olive mohairs.
