Members NickIL Posted August 10, 2009 Members Posted August 10, 2009 Any forum members experienced the walleye population at Lake of the Ozarks? Have done most of my fishing up north where walleye are pretty common. Are they usually caught by accident, or do some fishermen target them? Thanks. Nick
rps Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Check out Mid South Walleye and the Lake Stockton forums. Several OAF members are hardcore walleye fishermen, but most also write on the other forum. I fish walleye on upper Table Rock, not LOZ, so I can't help you with lake specific questions. I post what I learn each trip in the Table Rock forum. Good Luck.
rangerman Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 NickIl, I fish walleye down south at TR and Bull Shoals. I also fish LOZ quite a bit and yes there are quite a few eyes in it. There is a pouplation strong enough to go out and target them. I have gotten fish up to 8 pounds there and a couple of years back someone got one that was 14 pounds, however, that was in the spring. Fish the same areas as you would anywhere else. Inside channel bends with gravel. I have also found them suspending on the outside channel bends near bluffs. Here is the kicker, the fish generally hang in the 10-18 foot depths even this time of year. The large one I caught last year in august was out of 18 foot of water and I was trolling 14 foot range. Also fish early, try to be off the water by 10:00 or so. With the boat traffic it seems it pushes the fish down and it really isn't worth the problems your encounter with the boating crowd down there. Try to match the hatch. Medium size shad shaped baits work great down there and pull them at about 2.1mph. Go get'em Jason
