trizkid Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 buddies and i are trying to get a trip together to head down late sept or oct....plan on doing a good amount of fishing out of the park down there whats usually work well that time of the year on the current? TrIzzout
Bman Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Any fly that looks like trout eggs. The only good line is a tight line
Paola Cat Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Always carry some olive mohair leeches (#10). These always work at Montauk and the upper Current. Take some San Juans also. I second the egg recommendation. I also fish an egg with a pheasant tail, hare's ear, small stone, or a tellico dropper. Good Luck. PC Cheers. PC
Bman Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 so egg patterns whats hot eh? The months you mentioned, yup. The only good line is a tight line
ozark trout fisher Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 so egg patterns whats hot eh? Defintely. I even catch fish on down there (both in and below the park) on egg patterns in summer, when fish shouldn't even be keying in on them. But they should work particularly well in the fall. Also bring the normal nymphs, woolly buggers, leaches, and dries. Streamers are also good, as the bigger browns down below the park tend to focus on minnows as opposed to bugs.
10pointer Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 i was down on thursday and lemme tell ya the fishing was awesome....the hatch was crazy in the morning and the fish were taking topwater like crazy...........only problem was i forgot my flyrod but others were doing well. Lots of nice sized fish in the stream right now and they should finish the season strong from what i see I did manage to catch a 7 lb female rainbow just above the dam boy oh boy did she fight like crazy it was a good ten minutes or so before i landed her. I caught her on my "lunker suicide" as others have named the jig i tie. Lost another 5lb+ but oh wellz. Caught a tonnnnnn of fish, they really are stacked up this year IMO..... lol what about all that reduced numbers talk? we talked with tom the hatchery mgr and they were only supplying meramec as of a few months ago. Couldnt ask for a better hatchery mgr than him, compared to the other parks i really believe he blows the other guys away! He can really grow some nice fish!
