My father-in-law turns 78 in March of next year. I love this man. He is so much fun. Me and my brother-in-law have always wanted to get him into some stripers. He lived on the lake at Shell Knob (Hardman Hollow) for 19 years before it got too much for him. Taking care of everyone's docks and such.

I need some help here on advise for a good guide on Beaver and when is the best time to go.

Never caught a true striper myself, only whites and a few hybrids.

Whenever the best time is, I'll book a trip for then...

Help me out guys...

We use Ed Chapko at least once a year. He always puts us on the fish and is great to work with. E & C Striper Guides. Check em out on the web.

I've gone out with these guys a few times http://www.beaverfeverguides.com/index.cfm

If you book them try to get boat #1. They have several boat/guides. The #1 boat is the owner and he always seams to get the best spots.

They run nice big boats and catch fish pretty much year round... check out their photo gallery. I wouldn't recommend to early in the spring though. We went in Feb and had a slow day. The one in my avitar was caught in Aug... 31#. I didn't know Oct was good... I'd like to give that a try.

Thanks Ed... nice fish there!

Not a problem... and thanks. I caught that fish the first time I went out with those guys. I'm not big on guided trips because I prefer to do everything myself... it kind of seems like cheating but you have to learn somehow. The good thing about these guys is the anglers do much of the work. You set the lines and are responsible for making the strike and getting them to the boat. They get you set up and hopefully put you on some fish... after that your success and failure are pretty much on you. I think a guided trip to Beaver for you FIL would be great way to experience the lake and fishery. I've fished it on my own but not with nearly the success.

BTW... I'm from the KC area as well.

Good luck and post how it goes.

There are many different guides depending on the kind of trip you want to have --

some specialize in live bait, some in artificials. Some of the guys are nice, some are quiet and get down to fishing :-)

I would reccommend Don at Beaverfever anytime...just dont expect to talk much. He can be rough around the edges but definately knows the lake like none other. and he gets down to business.

We have great luck from when it starts cooling off clearr through new years -- they are heading towards and up into the river arms and feeding up for the winter at that time.

Some others I would reccommend are:

Yes I agree about Don, He may be a little rough, but he can get you on the fish (if his girlfriend isnt killing the shad! lol) and in my opinion... thats what its all about.

Ive got a trip with him this coming weekend, I am taking my two boys and my dad on a full day trip, been watching the gallery and it seems to be hit an miss on pulling the big ones.... I would love to see my dad or either one of my son's fight a 20 pounder!

I will report back and let you know how we did.
