Was just wondering how the bass fishing has been on Fellows Lake the last few weeks? Haven't been out there lately but the with all the rain and cooler weather was hoping fishing has picked up. Thanks for any info.

I made a vow to never go back to that lake.

I'm not a novice fisherman, but I'm wasting my time there, catching , 2 maybe 3 bass all evening, when I could drive 30 minutes further and fish at a world class bass lake. Fellows is one of two things....overfished due to it's smaller size, or simply lacking in fish.

I'm not saying Fellows doesn't have it's days. I've caught a few nicer bass out of fellows.....All in all though, it's just a royal waste of time.

I dont agree at all. the fish are simply put , in a different stage than these big lakes... fellows mixes thier water to keep even temps. this places fish into a pattern that doesnt follow conventional themes. When you go to fellows there is 2 major things to know cover on top of cover (from the bank to the deepest point if its not atleast 2 means of cover on each other then you are WASTING your time) IE... grass and a log together .. channel swing with a brush pile... chute with grass ... long flats with secondary even a third weed line. second fish dont bite all the time, first thing in the morn. before or after noon and right before closing time are your best bets.. IE 9- 11 dead.. 1 -4 dead 9pm- its closed....

to say there are no quality fishing options is taking it too far . even my worst days yield a good 10 fish. my best days can make it upwards of 30 and 40 fish .. which means that if fish really do learn from their mistakes that there are over 1000 keeper bass in there that are privy to my spook and a new lure would take all of them..try a new lure or new approach to fishing fellows and you may be surprised that your old holes come back to life. or hope that a new bass moved in to that spot and old standby has not been run by him yet.

I guess I could, but from now on, I think I might just drive the extra 30 minutes and hit one of the world's premium bass fishing lakes. Table Rock.

I'm at least used to the patterns on that lake.

Fellows might have a lot of bass, but hardly any trophy size bass (20+"). The main cause of this is due to over fishing and people keeping bass that they think are trophies... Hardly any of these old timers practice catch and release and don't understand how they are hurting the fishery by keeping every fish they catch. I don't understand why anyone would want to keep a bass, they don't taste good and are more of a sport fish than an eating fish... What's wrong with taking a few pics and releasing the bass to grow, reproduce and fight another day??? Why must they keep them?

I remember when Fellows Lake used to have smallmouth bass, they were just starting to populate the lake when a bunch of these old (dim witted) greedy fishermen felt it was their right to keep as many smallies as they wanted and the fish were not able to reproduce faster than people were catching and keeping them, and disappeared within a few years. I'm not saying that's the only reason they are gone, but it is the MAIN reason...

Has anyone seen these old timers that just sit in one spot for hours, hogging the area?? It's ridiculous. Fellows is too small of a lake for that kind of ignorant behavior.

Best bets for trophy size bass are at Pomme, Table Rock, Stockton, McDaniels and a few river systems.

Its just something you cope with in a small lake. I just fish right around them. Even on a big lake or in a tournament, if there is someone on some water you want to fish just fish around them. Sure it will piss a few people off, but the lake is public so live with it ya know. I agree that Mcdanials is a great place to find a 10 pounder. If only you could put a boat on it B) But i have talked to many people that have caught 8 plus pound fish out of fellows. I have released several 5 to 6 pund fish in there also . There is soo much grass in the lake there are probably fish in there that have never been caught.

Hmm trophy bass from fellows..what is trophy to you? most bass tournys around here pay out for the biggest bass . if you do a little research on this 5lbs would win almost every time .. worth a trophy?

these are all in the 5 lbs range and caught this year from fellows.post-9079-1252339447_thumb.jpg

I personally think 10 lbs is a trophy but most people have never even seen a 5lbs bass its a matter of opinion ...not one under 20" for billY's trophy case in those pics.. try not to be such a sour pus if you get skunked bass fishing is hard stuff any where you go. to catch bass is easy , to catch big bass is not... try harder , LOOK at the fishing reports , study before you go , have a game plan , fish to the situation, get bigger lures the list can go on on but you would have to pay me for much more than holding hands.

I think over 10 lbs also. But i have caught too many 5- 6 lbs bass to count those as a "trophy". I have only caught one over ten and its still swimming around. But this is what i do is bass fish. Work hard and fish that grass in fellows and you will come out with a big one eventually!

It all depends on what lake your fishing to get that big bass check, also the season. Table rock its usally takes a big six pounder, same with lake of the ozarks, and Truman. Stockton in the bigger tournaments might take a 7 to eight pounder. You can figure on adding about a pound and half in the spring to take it home. A five pounder will rarley get you the grip!!

you have to take into consideration 820 acre lake and 29,000acre lake are obviously going to have some differences but my point is there are quality fish in there. most the results I see for these tourneys the big bass this year havent broke the 5-7 lbs range but im sure its not uncommon to see much larger fish from a more dedicated crowd.
