chub minnow Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Fished early Sunday morning starting at the north bridge in Morse Park. Caught one small one under a root wad on my 2nd drift with a big ugly foam hopper I brought back from Colorado. Had a few more swipes while working more brush on my way north up to the abandoned house. Maybe if they put trash cans on the bank people would throw away their trash? Unbelievable. Other than the trash it was a really nice morning on a pretty nice stretch of water.
Buzz Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Fished early Sunday morning starting at the north bridge in Morse Park. Where exactly did you see all of the trash? There are trash cans all along the creek, but mainly near the places that people congregate the most. Was the trash in the water or along the banks? Our stream team cleaned that section back in July, but didn't go past the bridge. Back in the Spring we cleaned up the area from Hwy. 86 down to the ballfields. That place you fished is very popular with the swimmers, so I'm not too surprised. A lot of the trash is blown in from the park and some washes in during big rain storms. We'll have to check it out before our next cleanup. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
chub minnow Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 Lots of beer cans (more than I could cart out), bait containers etc. This was mainly north of the park and south of the abandoned house especially by the big black drain pipe. Everywhere else I went looked pretty good. This secluded area seemed to be someone's "thinkin' and drinkin'" spot. Likewise, upstream by Kwik Mart (hwy 86 bridge) someone had a cocktail party and forgot to invite me. (there are trash cans there!)
Buzz Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Thanks. We have another stream cleanup coming next month. It's really difficult keeping up with the trash. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
chub minnow Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 Looks like you guys are doing great work. I remember how Hickory was when I was a kid - never even considered dipping a toe in. It is frustrating that people can't appreciate how much nicer it is now and simply pick up their own trash. Keep up the good work. Hope to make it up to help out sometime.
Buzz Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 We are trying to stay on top of the best we can. Keep an eye out for Ollie's post for the next date. He should be posting something in the next couple of weeks. We would be happy for any and all help. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
