Members Zach Beach Posted September 2, 2009 Members Posted September 2, 2009 I am curios if the Truman tailwaters in the fall (late october) is a good place to go for whites and walleyes? I have only fished up there once and I fished the slack water side. I caught a lot of crappie. I have a house around the 48mm and I'm wondering if the long trip up to the dam would be worth it. If so would shallow diving crankbaits and in-line spinners be the lures to bring, or should I bring just a bunch of jigs?
Bill B. Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 A lot depends on whether there's enough water in the lake to allow generation. If the generators run, there can be some good white bass and hybrid fishing in October and November.
shaker Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Like Bill B. says you really need some running water. As far as lures go in my experience simply take everything you have. Top water (spook), jerk baits, jigs from 1/16 oz to 3/4 oz. Swim tails, thumper tails, tubes, mainly chartruese and white, red and chartreuse crappie jigs work well for crappie. I have some friends that swear Gulp is the way to go for eyes.
Members Zach Beach Posted September 4, 2009 Author Members Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I'll bring everything I've got. I have some of those Gulp Alive minnows, I think that I might try those. Do you recommend to look for the eyes in the current or in the slack water? I have only been fishing for walleye in Canada and up there you could catch them anywhere you fished. I'm figuring they are a little harder to find down here and not as abundent. I also heard that a jig tipped with a night crawler works. I have never tried this but I'm curios if it is a good lurer to use.
