Evolution Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Hit up Keystone dam in the wee hours today even though moon was shining brightly and prediction of rain in the early morning. Saw carps and gars busting shad. Tried to imitate them but no luck. Tried a bunch of lures/jigs but donated a majority of them to the rocks. Fowl-hooked a few gars with rat-l-traps. As the sun started to rise on the East, the clouds started to rumble and overtake it from the West. Right before the rain came, I hooked onto a fish (I believe it may have been a fowl-hooked carp since the same senario happened at zink) and had it take my drag for a long ride before it broke loose. A short while after this, the rain came down and I mean it came down hard. I already lost a bunch of lures/jigs so decided to hit up BPS. Little did I know people in Tulsa can't drive, accidents occurring left and right on my way to BPS. Loaded up and headed back to give zink a shot since the rained started to slow down. The water was very murky in color and fishing produced the black and white except for the fowl-hooked carp which took forever to land since it ran with the current, putting more stress on me since I didn't want to lose this fish. Did a lot of walking and looking for spot so hopefully next time these spots will have a fish with my name on it. The prediction of SWPA having Sat. with little generation and Sun with no generation should make good fishing as long as the weather holds If I didn't live so far, I would probably give it another shot but I'll just have to live through what others post on this section for the time being.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I'm wondering if all the stripers, hybrids, and sand bass haven't all went back downstream away from the dam? Or who knows....I don't know if I'll go back till next spring. I think there's still a few stripers hanging around in the lower illinois below tenkiller but its almost like steelhead fishing....the fish of a 1000 casts! But its so worth it... I dont know though, I might try to sneak down there tomorrow if the water looks good....see what I can't stir up! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
Members ColeM. Posted September 6, 2009 Members Posted September 6, 2009 Who knows, I am going to fish it hard Tuesday and Wednesday and see what happens. It's supposed to be warmer so I am hoping that will get the fish moving.
